Small Accidents – What Would David Do?

It’s kinda crazy, but someone managed to hit my truck at our nearly empty parking lot at the office location -2800 Shoreline Drive Denton, Texas 76210.  This lovely individual backed into the official Ryan Everet Insurance truck and drove off without trying to contact me even though my website and phone number are all over the vehicle.

Enough of my whining – – -the main reason I wanted to share this little story with you is to show you how I would handle any small accident.  Here’s what I recommend that you do regardless of the situation:

  1. Get an estimate of the cost to repair the damage
  2. Look at your deductible to see if the damages exceed your deductible
  3. Figure out how much money you would get to cover the damages above and beyond your deductible to see if it’s worth filing a claim
  4. Decide whether or not to file a claim based on #3 above.

Most people don’t realize it, but even if another person hits your vehicle and it’s their fault, it shows as a claim on your CLUE report which is a central database that ALL preferred auto insurance companies use.  Some non-standard companies don’t use this, but they are not the insurance companies that we would recommend.  The CLUE report is kind of like a credit report because it’s a repository for companies to see your claims history – At Fault, Not At Fault, Liability Claims, Personal Injury Protection (PIP),  and other activity.  Even Towing and roadside assistance is considered a claim and will show up here.

Anytime you have a question on how to handle a potential claim scenario whether it’s for your home or auto insurance, give us a call at 940-268-5112 and we’ll be happy to help!
